Academics

Lower and Upper Montessori (Montessori-1 & Montessory-2):

In the Montessori Classes, emphasis is placed equally on children's intellectual, physical and social development. Children learn through a combination of Montessori material, games, songs and creative projects. They play with blocks; measure sand, water or ingredients for cooking; they are taught to observe changes in the environment, examine and sort objects. Story-telling and role-playing, drawing and tracing, creating patterns and developing skills of measurement: all contribute to the laying of strong foundations in literacy and numeracy.

Junior School - Grade 1 to 5

The Junior School Program at Sree Basaveswara Public Schoolcomprises of Grade I to Grade V. These are the foundation years of education, where various skills, preferences and abilities are developed. The School follows an integrated curriculum of the Council for the Central Board of Secondary Education.

We recognize that children at this level have their own unique abilities, interests, aspirations and expectations. Therefore, our curriculum in these classes is structured to encourage and motivate them to become self-confident, self-reliant and self-disciplined, and thus help them achieve full potential. Our teachers use multiple learning styles to help students retain information and strengthen understanding.

A variety of strategies and methods are used to ensure that all students have equal opportunities to learn.

Explaining

This form of teaching is similar to speaking - on a specific subject. This method also involves demonstrating with the help of teaching aids such as charts, models, flash cards, etc. Experimentation to demonstrate is used in a Science class.

Demonstrating

Demonstrations are given to provide an opportunity in learning through exploration and activity. Children can learn from a number of informal methods like activities, projects, presentations and hands-on experiences, apart from formal learning; Teachers encourage the students to participate in the demonstrations.

Collaborating

Students are encouraged to work in groups. Collaborating allows students to talk to each other and listen to all view points of discussion or assignment. It helps the students to think in an unbiased way. This lesson plan helps to assess the student's ability of working as a team, leadership skills, or presenting with roles.

Use of the Interactive Board, Internet (multi media)

Teachers adopt new technology in teaching using Interactive board and multimedia. This method of teaching enables the students to have a concrete understanding of the topic as they are able to see actual photographs or view the videos of the specific unit for study. Students have access to the computer and the internet facility to complete their assignments.

Class Projects

Simple project assignments are given to the students after a particular topic has been taught. This enables the students to "Learn by Doing". This project is planned for individual students or for groups of three to five students.

Field Trips

Field trips are organized for the students to visit places, gardens, museums or study sites on the school campus to make learning an unforgettable experience.

Assessments

Periodic assessments are conducted and students are graded based on their performances. School follows a system of continuous evaluation and regularly provides parents with an assessment of their child's academic progress, based on a comprehensive system of reviews, reports and parent-teacher meetings.

Karate / Taekwondo

Instructors at SBPS train the students to the best of their ability. Some students come fit, while others are to be made fit. Most come with limited flexibility. Students are looked upon as an individual, never compared to anyone else. Our instructors will be there every step of the way. All that is expected is a willingness to try.

Here are some benefits you can expect from training in Taekwondo:

  • Fitness
  • The principles of Taekwondo techniques are based on the design of your body. For power you develop the larger, powerful muscles of the torso. The speed of the techniques comes from the fast, agile muscles of the arms and legs. As you progress in Taekwondo, you will learn to coordinate this speed and power, and develop a concentration to focus all of your body's strength into a small, hard striking surface like the edge of the hand or the heel of a foot.

  • Self-Defense
  • When the speed and power developed through Taekwondo is used in a self-defense situation against the vulnerable parts of an attacker's body, the results can be incredible. Taekwondo allows a woman to emphasize many of her natural physical strengths, such as power in the legs, while learning a method of self-defense efficient against a much larger opponent. Knowing you can defend yourself, your confidence will grow. And confidence alone is usually enough to deter potential attackers.

  • Self-Confidence
  • This does not come naturally for many people, but self-confidence can be developed over a period of time. Through Taekwondo, as you accomplish new goals, your confidence level increases. Taekwondo instills a sense of discipline and self-confidence that can carry over to all aspects of your life.

  • Yoga
  • Our children live in a hurry-up world of busy parents, school pressures, incessant lessons, video games, malls, and competitive sports. We usually don't think of these influences as stressful for our kids, but often they are. The bustling pace of our children's lives can have a profound effect on their innate joy and usually not for the better.

We have a strong belief that yoga can help counter these pressures. When children learn techniques for self-health, relaxation, and inner fulfilment, they can navigate life's challenges with a little more ease. Yoga at an early age encourages self-esteem and body awareness with a physical activity that's non-competitive. Fostering cooperation and compassion instead of opposition is a great gift to give our children.

Children derive enormous benefits from yoga. Physically, it enhances their flexibility, strength, coordination, and body awareness. In addition, their concentration and sense of calmness and relaxation improves. Doing yoga, children exercise, play, connect more deeply with the inner self, and develop an intimate relationship with the natural world that surrounds them. Yoga brings that marvellous inner light that all children have to the surface. The physical movements introduce kids to yoga's true meaning: union, expression, and honour for oneself and one's part in the delicate web of life.

Sree Basaveswara Public School recognizes the need to nurture talent in students from an early age. It inspires them to take on the challenges of life and exhibit the spirit of competition and sportsmanship. The Sports Academy consists of special coaching camps for various Outdoor games like athletics, basketball, shuttle badminton, cricket, football and Indoor games like table tennis, Chess, Carrom, Stating which are being conducted.

In the quest to develop happy, healthy well-rounded children, the Sports Department plays a very significant role in not only nurturing the students' talents on the sports field but also in developing all facets of the students' personality.
